🦁 Business of the Week: Hermanus Family Practice
This week we step into Hermanus Family Practice and learn more about how they went from vision to reality to become a cornerstone of care and community.

When Dr. Linda von Zeuner and her husband moved to Hermanus at the end of 2015, they thought it would be a temporary step before returning to the fast-paced world of academic medicine. He had just qualified as a specialist physician at Mediclinic Hermanus, while she was considering specialising further after some time away from the academic treadmill. What they didn’t expect was to fall in love with Hermanus, build a family here, and open a practice that has since become a cornerstone of care and community.
From Vision to Reality
The seeds of Hermanus Family Practice were planted long before its official opening in April 2021. Dr. von Zeuner’s experience as a mother, coupled with her medical background, shaped her dream of a supportive, family-friendly medical space. Alongside part-time work in emergency medicine and other practices, she pursued additional qualifications in child health, allergies, and dermatology. Her vision was simple but powerful: to create a one stop practice where families would not feel lost or unsupported, especially in the early stages of parenthood.
A Team for the Community
What began as just Dr. von Zeuner and practice manager Alicia has grown into a multidisciplinary team. Today, the practice includes:
Dr. Linda von Zeuner – Part time GP focusing on allergies, aesthetics, and GP based dermatology (currently on maternity leave)
Dr. Marisna Venter – Full time GP with a special interest in sports medicine.
Dr. Elna Gibson – Paediatrician dedicated to clinic based paediatrics.
Karin Brand – Child psychologist, with support from Chantel du Toit, expanding services across the Overberg.
Together, they form a unique, collaborative hub that goes beyond traditional general practice.

A unique, collaborative hub that goes beyond traditional general practice.
A Practice Rooted in Community
Hermanus Family Practice is not only about healthcare within its walls. Patients and staff alike have rallied behind community projects, from helping furnish a foster home in collaboration with Hermanus Child Welfare Services to supporting Pebbles School through pro bono visits. As Dr. von Zeuner puts it, “It truly is an honour to have patients with such open hearts.”
The Challenges and the Joys
Running a business in Hermanus has its quirks. In a close knit town, doctors and patients often bump into each other at school events, the shops, or even mid toddler meltdown. But Dr. von Zeuner sees this as a privilege: the chance to care for whole families, to be part of their lives beyond the consulting room, and to keep things real and relatable.
Looking Ahead
Hermanus Family Practice continues to dream big. With aspirations to expand their team and services, they remain committed to providing a welcoming, multidisciplinary medical home for families in Hermanus and beyond.

🍪New in town: from kitchen to concept as two friends create just.
It started with a simple idea between two friends, a pastry chef and a registered dietitian, who shared a love for beautiful, delicious food. Wilna Eksteen, a registered dietitian, has always been passionate about product development, clean eating, and healthy living. She was always excited by the idea of creating something new that was both good for you and tasted great. Her friend, Janine Burke, is a talented pastry chef with a remarkable background. Her food journey began in the kitchens of renowned chefs, and she honed her skills at esteemed places like Le Residence, Leopard's Leap, and La Mont. Even from a young age, Janine’s true love has always been baking.
Together, they combined their unique skills and passions to create just. — a company dedicated to producing healthy, exceptional-quality products. Their mission is to supply the public with food that not only tastes incredible but also supports a local supply chain and keeps the consumer’s health at the forefront. They firmly believe that feeding people junk is not an option and are committed to showing that health and delicious flavour can go hand in hand.

🍷 Wine of the Week
We’ve teamed up with a few mysterious ghost writers who know their way around a wine glass. Each week, they’ll be sharing a local wine review straight from the heart of the valley.
What’s in your Glass (17.09.2025)
Our feature wine for the week – RAKA FIVE MAIDENS
At a recent get together with friends, someone opened one of the Five Maidens from Raka - one of the long-standing local legends that don’t often get the recognition they deserve.
(The wine was named after Raka, the beloved fishing boat of Piet Dreyer, proprietor of Raka wines and the wines are nurtured by the enthusiasm of winemaker Josef Dreyer.) The wine is a blend of all five Bordeaux varieties, Cab Sauv and Merlot leading the way, aged in barrel for 24months.
Nestled between the mountains on the other side of the Akkedisberg pass; on the banks of the Kleinrivier, you will find this local gem… definitely worth visiting and enjoying good old fashioned local hospitality and promising wines.
I was impressed with the generosity of the wine. Plush, bold, yet it showed signs of elegance and restrain. The wine was incredibly “comforting” in the glass and in my belly. It is one of those wines where you don’t have to think or be academic. You can just enjoy. No frills. No fuss. Just like Oom Piet with his bare feet… (for those of you that have meet the man, the legend, will know what I am talking about!)
Cost – R520 (Raka must be one of the “best value for money” Brands in the Overberg)
90/100

The wine was incredibly “comforting”
