🔌 Business of the Week: Robbie’s Electrical
Sometimes the best decisions come from taking a leap of faith.
Back in 2017, Robbie and his wife were living in Brackenfell when life changed in more ways than one - with a baby on the way, they decided to swap the city rush for a quieter, family-friendly Hermanus lifestyle. Robbie, who had been working as an electrician for an engineering company, sold everything, packed up, and started fresh on the coast - with no clients and a one-month-old baby in tow.

“It was really scary,” he admits. “I started by grabbing coffee’s with people, knocking on doors, and introducing myself to anyone who might need electrical work.”
That hustle - and his friendly nature - quickly paid off. His first big break came with Camphill School, soon followed by key clients like Eastcliff Spar and Gateway Spar. From there, Robbie Electrical began offering COCs (Certificates of Compliance) for real estate transfers and partnered with local estate agents and builders, steadily building trust and relationships in the community.

Always with a smile and a can-do attitude.
When COVID hit, things slowed - but once construction picked up again, business took off. Today, Robbie Electrical has become known as the friendliest electrician in town (well at least we think so!) - a trusted name in Hermanus, handling everything from new home builds to complex installations, solar setups, and COCs, always with a smile and a can-do attitude.
Outside of work, Robbie is a golf fanatic, a family man with two kids, and a regular in the Buildit business cricket league. He’s also actively involved with the Hermanus Primary under-8 girls’ hockey team - giving back to the community that supported his journey.
His favourite Hermanus indulgence? “Definitely the ribs at Hussar Grill,” he laughs - followed closely by grabbing a pizza at Ember’s, their go-to family spot.

🔥 Gansbaai Fire Update
As we wrap up this week’s Scoop, our thoughts are with the brave teams still battling the Gansbaai mountain fire. More than 1,700 hectares have burned, but thanks to the tireless efforts of the firefighters, major progress has been made in containing the blaze.
Support crews include members from Overstrand and Overberg Municipalities, Working on Fire, goFPA, NCC, and local landowners, with air support from Leading Edge Aviation’s two Huey helicopters, which have been vital in water-bombing operations.
The fire began just before the official start of the Western Cape fire season, making early containment a huge challenge. Crews continue to work into the night to keep the community safe.
A heartfelt thank-you to all those on the frontlines - our real local heroes.
